It was 7:40 pm and the Spokeswoman, 6 week old Brown Chick, decided it was time to roost. She flew to the top of her Brooder and one of her sisters followed. I was busy surfing and dreaming about endless summer pools for our swimmer champion that cannot go to practice in the Covid-19 lockdown.
I descended my 31st set of stairs for that day to meet her at the brooder. Then we had a talk…Flying the coop deserves lots of bonding with Mom, regardless if it is wanted. She was open to 30 seconds of bonding before changing her mind. She returned to her lower sister, Hensolo. Sunflower, #2, followed and wasn’t interested in mixing, bonding and roosting either.

I put their cover on the Brooder and they complained, in trio, “pew, pew, pew..”
Naturally, I was starving afterwards because raising chicks can be ravishing work! I looked at the amazing DiGiorno pizza in the freezer and debated making my own… Earlier, the two boys ate an entire pizza and left me nothing! I scrapped that idea and reached for the beans…

They looked lonely on the empty top shelf of our refrigerator. They were a few days old….I checked my Garmin for my calorie count…hmm, probably ok for a snack!
The Famous Dave’s Devil’s Spit were calling my name..then, the tomatoes for vitamin C were too!
I whipped it together and wow! Dave does not disappoint! They were super filling. That is a saver snack for the future!
