Bam! All American 6:29/mile from this Old Mom

It woke up this Saturday morning and decided to have some Mother/ Son bonding. I asked my 11 yr old shadow to play a game outside. Thankfully, he hasn’t outgrown spending time with me.

Off we went to the backyard for our version of Dodge ball on the Trampoline. It was a barrel of laughs, till out of the blue came a very loud observation.

“Mom, holy cow, you have A LOT of grey hair!”

I promptly explained that it was rude and you never comment on a woman’s age.

He apologized and we headed back into the house for ping pong.

He kept beating me…so I explained that he has to learn to let his Mom win every once in a while. He looked very puzzled. I explained that it’s not fun to be beat constantly and I wouldn’t want to play him anymore. After a few minutes, he eased up and I won a game against him. We had a lot of laughs.

As we put the ping pong stuff away I heard him say, in his loudest voice, he bellowed. “Oh my gosh, you are SO OOOOLLLD!”

No more explanations… I responded can I see your phone? He handed it over, and it was promptly grounded.

Then, this Old Mom went for a run.

I warmed up and my legs felt fast… It was a great time to do that Virtual mile that I wasn’t fit for. I started strength workouts so I backed off on mileage. I was down to 15 miles/ week on top of 2 hrs of strength. That didn’t deter me. I started my run and hit 3 negative splits!

This Old Mom eeked out a 6:29 mile!

This Old Mom hit a All American Time.

I registered my time to the Grand Blue Mile. The Leader board won’t close for another week, but it showed that I was in 13th overall and 4th place women.

Suddenly, this Old Mom felt pretty young because I am still faster than my High School mile times.
