Should we sell the Golden Garden Crop?

The organic black seeded loose leaf was planted for sale later than our temperature map for our State. I tried to convince Farmer’s market buyers that they could grow inside.

Smart gardners knew it was possible and bought a few. However, I was left with a ton of seedlings and I wasn’t a salad person.

I read up on their ideal grow temperatures and it hit me that our basement grow tent had the ideal environment. I put them into the basement grow tent immediately upon return from the market. I watered them 2x during the week and forgot about them.

On Saturday, I was doing the morning rounds and stumbled on a maze of loose leaf! The leaflets were intertwined with one another. It was a sight to see, and the smell inside the tent was amazing. It felt fresh, oxygen rich, and natural.

I watered them and went about my project work. Occassionally, I wondered what to do with all that lettuce.

Eventually, it was supper time and naturally, someone accidentally dropped my No Name Petite steak on the ground, there was a wrestle with the dog and eventually they got it back and embarrassed, threw it out. I was bummed…I began to wonder about the lettuce. Was it tasty?

I went into the tent and plucked a handful. Then, I did the unthinkable…I doppled cherry tomatoes on top and gave it a try.

It was over the top tasty, sweet, fresh, juicy, natural! Then, I began to wonder if I should ever sell it again! I could live off that lettuce! I pictured lettuce for life and converting it to 100% organic dirt too. I couldn’t fathom ever eating store or restaurant lettuce again.

We plan 1 or 2 farmer’s markets in the coming weeks…It will be anyone’s guess if we sell the gold!
