Brandywine Bed of Ten, I mean Pears are Ready to Grow!

There were shortages of Tomatoes in the COVID Lockdown and I couldn’t find them online. I ordered Organic seeds from Amazon. Low and behold, they were packaged in November of last year. God blessed Lake House Chocolates with that amazing find of fresh organic seeds.

When they arrived, I wanted to plant them but didn’t have any potting soil. I also didn’t have anything to grow them in. I had an idea! We had old socks in the giveaway pile from our kid. He grew an inch in a month and the socks needed a home. I also had plenty of dirt in the garden! As I dug out the dirt, I encountered earth worms…I added them in!

Memorial Day weekend, it was beautiful outside. Most of my friends had their gardens in, so I planted a four tomatoes. Naturally, the weather took a tun. It hailed! Then, the temperature dropped into the 60s for a few days. Those 4 took a beating! Meanwhile, their siblings doubled in size when I cranked the heat to 80 in their grow tent.

Two weeks later we had a heat spell and it was time to plant in 90 degree weather…I was trying to plant 10 plants on a lunch break. I only had an hour and tried to speed up… I was hurried…The 10 sets went in and one had an oops and I dropped it during planting. It sagged, it threatened to die and looked to cry. Once I watered, staked and added a drip line, it was back to promising tons of Brandywine…wait check the photo data trail…what??? Those are Pears!!??

Moving past the type mixup, who knew that a few pairs of old socks, prime garden soil and good ole earth worms would produce the highest yield seedings of the season. They only cost my time and a few bucks for seed… I am amazed at how God can work in these mysteries ways. Now, we have so many 12 inch seedlings that we need to signup for the local Farmers Market to sell the excess. God is Good!
